This is an initiative that aims to bridge the digital literacy gap of women in entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The program thus trains women in ICT and Entrepreneurship with an opportunity to leverage their newly acquired skills to better compete in the workforce and bridge the gender gap in ICT and business.
The program offers five courses namely IT: Essentials, Get Connected, Android Development, Web Development and Entrepreneurship. Many of the women who have enrolled in the program have come from a background where they are using a computer for the first time. They have demonstrated enthusiasm and dedication with an 80% average in overall attendance. Approximately 100 women are enrolled into the first edition of the training programme.
As a result, we this year partnered with a local ICT training outfit; Rural Information Technology Initiative which has 20 desktop computers to provide participants access to their facility and equipment to be a part of the program.
